Download Userful Desktop

Userful Desktop is available on both DVD and CD. The DVD format is preferred, since it installs all the required software in one step. CDs have far less storage capacity than DVDs, so when you use the install CD there are a few software packages that must be downloaded via the Internet after installation process.

Download the iso here. Once you download the ISO, you will need to burn an install disc. Our support page has more information on how to do this.

Register with Userful Manager

Userful Manager lets you remotely manage and customize your desktop. You can copy pre-built desktop Solutions to quickly get started or design and customize your own Solutions to make your desktops unique.

  • Register for a free account at http://manage.userful.com/

  • To quickly load internet cafe and prepaid card pre-built settings, click on"Solutions Catalog" from the main page. Then click on "Internet Cafe" and check the box next to "Internet Cafe Basic", then click "Copy Solutions" button.
  • You are now ready to begin your installation!

Install Userful Desktop

Warning: Userful Desktop will reformat your hard drive and wipe out all saved files so make sure you install it on a test machine or backup your document before you install.

Please ensure that you have your Userful Manager account ready before starting the installation process. Your test system will have a trial screen but we'll install a license from here and remove it as you place your first order of prepaid cards.

Step 1: Set up your hardware cables

Arrange your monitors, keyboards, and mice so they are evenly spaced and connect all cables (power cable, ethernet cable, monitor cables, keyboards & mice) to the central computer box. Make sure that you are connected to the internet to register and customize your Userful Desktop.

Step 2: Install Userful Desktop

  1. Insert the install disc into the DVD ROM and switch the power off for 15 seconds before rebooting. (Your PC needs to be set to boot from your CD/DVD ROM. If it is not the case, access your computer’s BIOS menu and change your setting. Then, reboot your machine again.)

  2. The Userful Splash Screen will ask you to type "install". Then hit the Enter key and wait for about 10‐15 minutes while Userful Desktop installs.

  3. When the installation is complete, the disk will automatically be ejected. Remove the installation DVD as instructed and click the "Reboot" button. (After installing the software, change the BIOS to only boot from the hard drive as a security measure to prevent local users compromising your system.)

Step 3: Configure your stations

The software will auto-detect your video cards and may prompt you to choose monitor resolution settings. We recommend that you accept the default settings by pressing the Enter key. You will be asked to configure your stations. Press the corresponding keys on the keyboards in front of each monitor as prompted and click on the corresponding mouse to link all of them together.

Step 4: Configure your basic settings

The first time Userful Desktop starts you will be prompted to accept the End User License Agreement. After agreeing, it will take you to the Setup Main Menu. Click on the set‐up icons in the order listed. You will be able to access these settings at any time later through Administration Mode. If you get stuck and want to return to the Setup Main Menu, just press Ctrl + Alt + Del.

  • Network
    Most computers will self‐configure with DHCP so choose "Automatically Obtain IP Address setting with DHCP”. If your network administrator or Internet Service Provider has supplied special settings, enter them on the fields provided. When finished click "OK". A message dialog will appear. Click "OK" again to proceed with the network settings change. Click on "Test Network" to see if you have internet connection.

    Note: If the network test fails, please continue with the set up and choose "Customize Settings" (next step). If you are able to register with Userful Manager, then the Network Settings Test was inaccurate and you do have connectivity.

  • Customize Settings
    Log in to Userful Manager with your email and password. This will link your computer to your Userful Manager account. Choose the Location and give your computer a distinct name. Click the "Register" button when you are done.

  • Date & Time
    Set up your time zone and date here.

  • Printers
    This is optional. Instructions are on our support site.

  • Enable System
    Once you are finished with the initial setup, click this button to activate Userful Desktop.
